"Plain Dealer" (Cleveland, OH), Sunday, August 8, 1999: Irene G. Shemo, an active member of Blessed Sacrament and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic churches, died Friday at East Park Care Center in Brook Park. She was 82. Mrs. Shemo was born in Taylor, Pa., and worked as a beautician there. She and her husband, Michael M., an insurance agent, moved to Cleveland in 1942. He died in 1978. She served as a past president of the Altar and Rosary Society at Blessed Sacrament and a member of the St. Charles Ladies Guild. Mrs. Shemo was an officer in the Jednota, the First Catholic Slovak Union of the United States and Canada. She was a member of the Isabella Guild and the National Conference of Catholic women. Mrs. Shemo was known for her beautiful roses and African violets, as well as her Slovak cooking. Survivors include her daughter, Sister Madeline H.M.; sons, Michael A. and Edward; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Charles Church, 5891 Ridge Rd., Parma. Arrangements are by Mallchok Funeral Home of Parma.
