I have a 1920 census return for St. John's Hospital on Detroit Ave. in Cleveland that lists many women with the relationship to Head of Household as "Nuns" followed by women whose relationship is listed as "Inmate." Each person listed as "Inmate" also has an occupation listed, and appears to be employed by the hospital since the industry is listed as "Hospital." What exactly do they mean by "Inmate?" Were these women hospitalized? Were they employees? Any insights would be appreciated!
2) There is a paragraph on St. John's at the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History site, but if anyone has any additional information on the hospital itself, I would also be interested in that information.
