I finally knocked down one of my brick walls and would up in Darke Co., Ohio. In a book on my ancestors it lists the following family but very little info. Albert Nevius b 1783 Somerset Co., New Jersey is connected to Joseph Nevius and William Nevius in Hunting Co., Indiana and Jany Co., Indiana. Also lists other siblings as David, Lucy, Perline. It lists Joseph's wife as Elizabeth Wirtz, Lucy as Mr. Davis and says Lucy lived in Darke Co., Ohio.(This is how I came to Darke Co. looking for just a hint of this family and I am sure I have found them. I have been going through Darke Co., census and marriage records. This is what I have found for this family 1820 census for Greenville Twp., Darke Co., Ohio shows Halbert Neviens (This is Albert Nevius) Marriage records for Darke Co shows several of his childrens marriages but under following names Joseph Nevians (Joseph Nevius)m. Elizabeth Worts (Elizabeth Wertz Jan 4 1833(census confirms the name Wertz in the area at this time but no Worts. David Nevins (David Nevius-my ancestor)m, Anna Bannon Feb 6 1843. Peline Nevins (Perline Nevius) m. Enox Townsend (Enos Townsend) Jan 21 1847. These three are all siblings. There are a couple others I think are Nevius but have no proof yet. But not Alberts, because I think I have all his, maybe a brother or cousin's. Albert does not show in 1830 census but his children married there after 1830. Maybe he died there. Nevius is a hard name to research and I can see why. Written Nevius can very easily be mistaken for Nevins unless you are looking vor Nevius. In 1830 census there is a Jacob Neff who has a huge family that could be partly mine if Albert died and widow moved in with family members. I have seen Nevius spelled Neff,Naff, Neffos,Neffous, and a veriety of other ways. But this Jacob could be a Neff??????????? 6 adults in househod ages 90-20, 9 children ages 20-0. Surely this is a multiple family unit for some reason (death of Albert?????) If anyone in Darke Co has any info or can find some to help prove my rambling I would very much appreciate any help on this. This brick wall has been up for years.
