Following is a message posted on the Turner Family Forum ##18187 as a result of an inquiry regarding Edward Turner son of Joseph Turner and Mahala Parrott (Parrett).
It is likely that the Joseph Turner who married Mahala Parrott was the son of William Turner, Jr. This Turner project is very much a work-in-progress. Although all of the children of William senior are identified, placing them in the correct son's family is still being done.
William Turner, Sr. was an early settler in Richland township, Fairfield County, Ohio settling there about 1800. He was granted 646 acres in Range 17, Township 17, Section 28 as a result of his service on the Virgina Continental Line.
He and his sons, William, Benjamin, James, Joseph and Daniel were all residents of Richland township, and all but Daniel are listed in the 1816 tax list for Richland as owners of land originally held by William Senior. Daniel is listed in 1810 but does not appear later.
I believe Joseph B. Turner who was born 9 May 1804 in Virginia was the son of William, Jr. although some of the other sons need to be eliminated as possible fathers. It is certain that he was a grandson of the original William. William Jr. is known to have had a son Joseph through estate papers relating to his daughter, Dorcas who was a minor when he died.
Joseph married Mahala Parrott (Parrett) on 24 Dec 1835. They were the parents of the following children:
Edward b. 26 August 1836, Rachel b. ca 1838, Benjamin F. Turner b. 10 Dec 1840, Randolph Turner B. 1841, Franklin Turner b. 1843, George Turner b. 1844, Amanda Turner b. 22 April 1845, Mary Turner b. 1847, Lucinda Turner b. 1849, and Joseph Wesley B. 1851
Joseph appears on the 1850 census in Richland Township, Fairfield County, Ohio.
Joseph had siblings: William married Lydia Frizzle, James C. Turner m. Rachel Jimes (possibly Ijams), Benjamin Turner b. 9 Feb 1800 married Sarah McKee,and Dorcas Loretta Turner (my ancestor) b. 1808, married Peter Buffington 12 April 1829 of Walnut Township, son of Rev. War. Patriot David Buffington. She died in Paulding County, Ohio in 1877.
Your Edward and his family can be followed through th federal census in Richland Township in 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880. They were the parents of 12 children.
