I would be very interested in your mention of an Estate of Jacob SMITH with a son, Matthias. That could be Jacob Myers SMITH, son of Mathias, who did indeed have a son Matthias Lewis SMITH.He (Jacob) died Nov 26 1843, but an inquiry to the Fayette Co. Archives Center said they had a file #522 for this Estate of Jacob, but no documents in it.Could there indeed be documentation that you have seen on this Estate?
We know from the obituaries and biographical accounts on the life of Milan Lewis SMITH (son of Mathias) that he had four brothers and three sisters, though not specifically named in these accounts. However, from other documents I can be sure that I know the 3 daughters of Mathias & Nancy Christena MYERS SMITH were:
l.Christina Anne SMITH b. abt. 1815 m. John WILSON on 19 Oct 1843, Fayette Co.I have limited info on them. 2.Mary Ann SMITH b. Nov 1816 m. Benjamin BYERS on 30 Oct 1849, Fayette Co., I have much on them, including her death certificate naming her parents 3.Harriett Elizabeth SMITH b. 10 Nov 1818 m. Henry CORSON 09 Apr 1840.They moved to Missouri, I have much on them.
Of the 4 brothers of Milan SMITH, I am sure of Jacob Myers SMITH b. 29 Mar 1810 who married Abigail BLOOMER 03 Oct 1833 and I have mentioned in my first part of this reply. The others being Samuel, Luther? or Isaac? (not sure about the latter).
I think you could easily rule out Mathias SMITH as the father of your Elizabeth SMITH, however, I have been wondering myself about this Jeremiah SMITH who married Rachel PARRETT, thinking there is a connection.
We do know that Mathias SMITH and Nancy Christena MYERS were married 21 March 1809 in Botetourt Co., VA.They came to Fayette Co, OH about 1814.Mathias SMITH died in 1821 at the age of 39, according to one source I have. What became of his widow, Nancy Christina is not known, however, all of the children married later in Fayette County, so I have reason to believe that she did not leave the area.I am fairly certain that Nancy Christena MYERS SMITH was the daughter of Jacob MYERS and Christina SHUSTER, originally of PA, then to Botetourt Co, VA and then to Fayette Co, OH.
Another interesting thread in common is the PARROT/PARRETT - WINDEL/WINDLE names.Milan SMITH married Mahala ARMSTRONG 13 Mar 1838 in Fayette Co.She was the daughter of John ARMSTRONG and Elizabeth PARRETT, both of VA.Elizabeth's parents were Joseph PARRETT and Anna Maria (you have Mary?) WENDLE/WINDLE and they are on the 1830 Census in Fayette Co.
I am very interested in knowing more about your Elizabeth SMITH husband and what you have on the PARRETT/WINDEL families.
