REBECCA C. PENNIWELL was born Jan. 26, l842, in Marion Township, Fayette County, Ohio, and died at her home in Leon, Iowa, on the 27th of March, l904, being at the time of her death 62 years, 2 months and l day old.
She was the twin sister of MRS. SARAH J. BRIDGES, who died at Seattle, Washington, March 25, l903, both of whom were daughters of SOLOMON and CATHARINE PENNIWELL, who died in Leon several years ago.She lived with her parents in the neighborhood in which she was born from infancy until past l3 years of age, when in the fall of l855 she removed with her parents to Decatur County, Iowa, where she has lived with the exception of two years spent in Des Moines, ever since.
She was united in marriage to SAMUEL H. LOREY, who survives her, on the 24th of March, l86l.To this union were born ten children, namely: FRANK P., IRMA, SALLIE C., now MRS. W.W. WHITE, of Iowa City; WILLIAM S., MINNIE A., now MRS. MARK GRIMES, of Leon; GLEN K., MAY M., now MRS. WESLEY CHEW, of Decatur City; CLAUDE L., FORREST L., HELEN L., all of whom survive her but IRMA and GLEN, both of whom died several years ago.
Sister LOREY has always been a quiet peaceable neighbor, never making any claim to extra goodness, but always ready to take the "Golden Rule" as her guide.She was converted many years ago and has lived a consistent Christian life through many trials and disappointments.She has ever been a pleasant companion for her husband and a kind and indulgent mother to her children.She will be missed most by those who knew her best.She died as she had lived, in peace.
Funeral services were conducted from the home of Rev. I.N. Woodward, Pastor of the M.E. Church, on Tuesday afternoon and interment made in the Leon Cemetery.
