Can you help me find information about my paternal great great grandparents born, in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland:Robert Reed born in 1780 and Mary Megwood Reed born in 1782?He was a weaver by trade.
According to his obituary: in 1817, they sailed to Quebec, Canada. The same year they proceeded to Pittsburgh; then took passage on a boat down the Ohio River landing just west of Cincinnati at North Bend, Ohio. He left his wife and four children there with the family of General Benjamin Harrison (Reed). Then went north westward through the wilderness across the Ohio line searching for his brother “living on White Watter” (the Whitewater River?) at Fayette County, Indiana.
What was his relationship with Gen. Harrison who is described as his “father”?
What is the significance of “Reed” attached to the name of Gen. Harrison?
Who was his brother?
Finding his brother, the family moved to Fayette County. On August 7, 1824, “after six years of hardy pioneer life”, Robert died leaving his wife pregnant with Robert R. Sr. who would be born on November 7.
James the eldest son died in 1825. That left William, about 14, the only support of his mother, and very young sisters and brothers. These are Jane, Mary Ann, Thomas and Robert R. Jane will die sometime before 1834 when the family moves to Clinton Township, Cass County, Indiana.
I can share information from their arrival in Clinton Township.
