My GGgrandfather Jacob Schlatter was a member of the Ohio 7th sharpeshooters in the Civil War, leaving behind wife Elizabeth (Lautenschlager) and four children. They lived in the Burlington area. He mustered out in 1865 and apparently returned to German Twp. and bought 35 acres south of Archbold (Section 7) in December, 1866. He and Elizabeth did not reunite and she appears in the 1870 census with the three remaining children (one died). She apparently gave the kids to others, including my Ggrandfather Jacob B. Schlatter who was given to a Rev. Sebastian Lipe. we have traced Jacob to a soldiers home in 1910 and a pension declaration of 1897 claims he was unmarried and had no children. The intervening years are in question.
There is reason to believe Jacob may have returned to Switzerland, married a Maria Meister in 1870 and returned to German Twp. in 1873 with new wife and child Gottfried to begin a 2nd family? The remains of this J. George Schlatter in Forrest Cemetery, Toledo, Oh. claims the civil war record of our Jacob.
We are looking for the remains of Elizabeth and any death or divorce records. We are looking for the remains of this Jacob if he is not the one in Forrest Cemetery (the "2nd" family disavows the relationship but admits their ancestor george Schlatter made the Cemetery declaration). We would love to find any old written records of Rev. Sebastian Lipe that might shed some light on this. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
