I am still trying to verify the parents and siblings for Elizabeth Pollock. According to her age given in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, Elizabeth was born about 1800 in Nova Scotia. She married Enos Ward in 1825 in Greene County, OH.
I had believed that her father was John Pollock Sr (born 1754 in Ulster, Ireland). John Sr and John Jr were the only Pollocks in the 1820 Greene County, OH census. In John Sr’s household, there were two females in the age range for Elizabeth. That and Elizabeth’s proximity to other members of the family in Greene and Union Counties, OH and Warren County, IL made her seem to fit.
However, there is a discrepancy that casts doubt on Elizabeth belonging to John Sr’s family. The IGI record on FamilySearch gives a date of birth for Elizabeth “Betsey” Pollock, daughter of John, as 1796 and a posting on this board by Diana Pollock also gives 1796 as the date of birth. This four year difference could possibly be explained away, but since the Pollocks use the same first names multiple times in each generation, it looks like Elizabeth may belong to another family.
A possibility for Elizabeth’s parents is William Pollock (born 1777, in Nova Scotia) and Mary Fulton. William is in Greene County, OH as of the 1830 census and certainly may have been there as early as 1825 (when Elizabeth married). The problem is that I can only find only two children for William and Mary: James F (a bio for James is on a subsequent posting) and Jane. If Elizabeth is William’s daughter, John Sr would be her grandfather instead of her father.
I would like to be able to correctly connect the Nova Scotia born Pollocks I’ve found on the internet and other sources. The following appear to be children of John Sr: William (b. 1777), John Jr (b. 1787), Samuel (b. 1790), Jane (b. 1792), Robert (b. 1793), Mary (b. 1794), Elizabeth (b. 1796), Alexander ( b. 1797).Does anyone have any additions or corrections?
Does anyone have any ideas about Elizabeth? I would appreciate any help.
