I have diligently studied lots of WARDS in and all around the area of Findlay, Ohio -especially Jesse WARD.I think Jesse WARD born 1818 and my Mahlon J. WARD born 1832 could have been brothers or cousins.I've been searching for the parents and siblings of Mahlon James WARD b 1832 Findlay, Hancock Co, Ohio.If census info was correct, Mahlon's father was born in England (born est 1812) and his mother was born in Ohio (born est. 1814); I don't know their names. Mahlon James WARD & his wife Fannie E. ROBERTS WARD are earliest Ward ancestors I've found. They were married 18 Jul 1861 in Hancock County, Ohio (NE Ohio).A year later, they were living in Ft. Wayne, Allen County, Indiana in 1862 when their eldest (known) son, Zophar John WARD was born July 11, 1862 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.Sometime between 1862 and 1872 the family moved to Eau Clair, Wisconsin.Zophar John WARD's early years (according to his obituary) were spent in Wisconsin [probably Eau Clair] where he learned the carpentry trade.Mahlon & Fanny WARD had at least 3 more children in Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin:Their known children were: 1. Zophar John Ward b. 1862Ft. Wayne, Allen Co, Ind. married 1st Laura Lindsay of Strum, Wis and 2nd Cora Wingad of Arena, Wis. 2. George Ward b. abt 1864 prob. in Eau Claire, Wis.; was living in Osseo, Trempleau Co., Wis. in 1929; 3. Orin(aka Ora) Ward b. 15 Feb 1872 prob. in Eau Claire, Wis. married Elizabeth Fields b. Lawrence Co, OH.(my husb. gr-parents). 4. Emily Anne Ward, b. 29 May 1875 Eau Claire, Wis. married Harry McKnight & lived in Brookings, South Dakota.
In 1887 the Mahlon Ward family moved to Springfield, Missouri when dau, Emily was 12 years old.By 1900 the parents, Mahlon & Fanny WARD and their son Orin WARD and his wife Lizzie had moved to Brookings, South Dakota. My husband, Darwin L. Ward (1933-1992) was born in Brookings, SD to Orin WARD's son Orville WARD and his wife Gladys NELSON. Please write with info to: Mary Kay Cole Ward, 1432 Yeardley Drive, Richmond, VA 23225-2906; Ph: 804-232-9338.

He lived in Findlay, Hancock Co. per the 1850 and 1860 census. He married 3 times: Mary Williamson 1841, Irena Wilson 1845 and Sylvina Marshall 1847. The 1860 census lists the following eight children, presumably some from each wife: John 1842 Nancy 1844 Margaret 1845 Mary 1846 Benjamin 1849 William 1850 Norman 1855 (my wife's 2nd ggf) Clorinda 1857 Jesse Ward was born somewhere in Ohio in 1818 wound up in Findlay, Hancock Co. by 1841 where he lived until his enlistment (I think it's this one) in the 21st Ohio Infantry in 1862 (at age 44) and he was in the army when he died on April 21, 1864 in Louisville KY - apparently the site of a Union army hospital, I'm told. Jesse was my wife's 3rd ggf (his son Norman, b.1854, was her 2nd ggf) Norman's mother was Jesse's third wife Sylvana MARSHALL WARD c.1820-1894. According to the 1860 Census, Jesse was born in Ohio around 1818 Jesse & Sylvina MARSHALL WARD did have a son named Benjamin who was born in 1849 (if the 1860 census is correct). The family lived in Findlay, Ohio. I have ordered Jesse's pension file from the NARA and hope to have more info.If anyone knows anything about Jesse or his origins, I would aappreciate hearing from you.-Ron Smith"
