It is said that Margarethe (KELLER) SCHMELZER died in Hocking County Ohio even though she was buried in Berne Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. Is anyone researching KELLER and SCHMELZER families in Hocking County, Ohio?
I am seeking descendants of Anselm-3 SCHMELZER (Blazius-2, Josef-1) and MargaretheKELLER. I have a substantial amount of information on the SCHMELZERs of Geneva in Rush Creek Township of Fairfield County and their origin at Ornbau and Burgoberbach, Bavaria, Germany.
But now I would like to learn more about the KELLER family that I believe was from Alsace region of France. In the 1860 census, Margarethe says that she was born in France, but in the 1880 census (after the Franco Prussian War of 1871) she states that she was born in Germany
This family is Roman Catholic. Margarethe (KELLER) SCHMELZER, "wife of Anslum" is buried in the Phillips Cemetery (St. Joseph Cemetery on Rush Creek) in Berne Township of Fairfield County (d. 11/17/1873 aged 42 years, 2 months and 17 days). In the same cemetery are buried Joseph KELLER (d. May 31, 1861, aged 55 years and 3 months, and his wife, Elizabeth (d. April 11, 1864). Most likely these are the parents of Margarethe (KELLER) SCHMELZER but can anyone verify this?
I am a descendant of Anselm and Margarethe's daughter: Frances Philomena "Minnie" SCHMELZER who married Charles CRIST. They were living at Corning, Ohio in 1880, in Columbus, Ohio by 1893 and "Minnie" died at Washington, Daviess County, Indiana in 1904. I believe her brother, Joseph SCHMELZER, also lived at Washington, Daviess County, Indiana.
