Hello again.I responded to another one of your posts a few minutes ago, but I just saw this one too, and I wanted to add something:
According to "Jonathon Shoemaker and his wife Rebecca Spangler: Their Descendants, Ancestors and other Relatives," a copy of which is located in the Galion, Ohio public library if you're interested, the four Reel children on William and Elizabeth Shoemaker Reel, still lived in Fairfield Co., Ohio in 1870.The census data supports this. Here they are:
1870 Berne, Fairfield, Ohio William Reel, 38, day laborer Elizabeth, 38 John, 8 Catherine, 6 Sarah, 4 Jacob, 1 (They live sandwiched in between John and Rebecca Shumaker, and Benjamin and Elizabeth Shumaker)
Elizabeth Shoemaker, my GGGG aunt, was a sister to Jonathan Shoemaker, who married Rebecca Spangler. The Benjamin above was a cousin.
It's wasn't until 1873 that Elizabeth Reel, mother of John, passed away. She's buried in St. Pauls Evangel. Lutheran Cem., Berne, Fairfield OH, according tothe Fairfield County, Ohio Cem. Records.I live in Ohio not too far from Fairfield Co, though Berne Tp. is on the far side of the county. It's possibe for me to take a trip down there some Sat if you have any leads you'd like me to look up.Perhaps dates to search for in newspapers, etc. You'd think I would have tried to visit Elizabeth's grave but actually I have not.I have tried to visit her parents' graves (which is located in the same cemetery) but that was years ago- before I even knew about their daughter Elizabeth.Elizabeth's parents were Jonathan and Hannah Keener/Kuhner Shumaker. They're my GGGG grandparents.I descend through their son Joel.
Jonathan Shumaker (husband of Hannah, not Rebecca) was the son of John Shumaker and Mary Elizabeth Long. They resided in Tulpehocken, Berks Co PA.It was Jonathan who migrated westward to Fairfield Co., Ohio.John's father, Jost Schumacher, emigrated from Germany in 1738 aboard the ship St Andrew. He and his descendents are mentioned in the book "Shoemaker Pioneers" which is a very difficult book to get a hold of.I do have a few of the pertinent pages photocopied somewhere in the mess I like to call my home office, if you'd like to see them.
I hope to hear from you soon!I look forward to adding your info to my database.I have over 3300 descendants of Jost and am willing to share :)
