New Haven and Maple Grove cemeteries are located across the road from each other. They are located at State Route 61 and Skinner Road, between New Haven and Plymouth in Huron County.
William H. Ramey was enlisted as a Corporal in Co. C, 123rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on Sept.29,1862. He received a disability discharge at Camp Dennison, Ohio on June 15,1863.
An 1879 History of Huron and Erie County Ohio, has a couple of very brief mentions of Henry Steele. Under New Haven Township, Pioneers and early settlers, it records that Henry Steele, a blacksmith, located in the village in 1824. He is also mentioned in a list of householders in 1826, as living in District No. 2.
The cemetery stone records Bethira's date of birth as Oct 4,1840, and the 1860 census of the Henry Steele household, lists a daughter Berthia as being 19 years old. The census enumeration was made July 20, 1860. That would match the date on the gravestone, almost assuring she was the daughter of Henry Steele.
