Are they in America a long time? born? or did they meet when got off the boat/s, marry somewhere in Maryland and then went to Knox, OH?Why did they go there? He was too young to be an 1813 war veteran, was his father, was some kind of land grant given to the father and his son took it? Questions, Questions! Was SMITH originally SCHMIDT?Descendants married German speakers and some settled in Glenmont, Holmes, OH area, language was lost by 1900s.Therefore, might they be the German SCHMIDT and became SMITH to be more "American" which was a common practice?His mother German and married a Smith who spoke German as a trader?
