This is interesting. One of the brick walls I have (at least in terms of finding verification) is a marriage I believe happened in Knox County in the 1834-1837 time frame. This would be between a John Mercer COOK and a Sarah Ann JOHNSON/JOHNSTON (note that I've seen both spellings).I've heard she was born in PA, possibly the daughter of a Peter Johnson/Johnston and I know that he was from the Cooks of Washington County, PA (specifically of Amwell Township from about the early 1770s until the early 1810s).
I've not seen any firm evidence of this but several genealogies I've seen have this couple married 6 Aug 1834 (or 6 Aug 1837).I show at least a Matilda P. Cook and John Allen Cook (my ancestor) as their children, born in Knox in the late 1830s.At least some of this clan later moved to Richardson County, Nebraska.
I'm trying to get documentable proof of my descendancy from Francis Cooke of Mayflower fame, and this particular couple is the last piece that keeps me from being able to do that.
