Sherman family
I'm seeking info on the Sherman family of Licking County, Ohio.
Specifically, I'm trying to find out more about a Rev. Edmund Sherman who was a minister in Newark in the 1830's & 1840's. I'm not sure which denomination he was with, but I think the Baptist, the Congregationalist, or the Methodist are the most likely candidates.
Rev. Edmund Sherman was born in Vermont. He had a son, Stephen A. Sherman, born 16 Feb 1842 in Ohio (presumably in Licking co.).
My great-great-grandmother was Chastina Sherman. She was born 24 Sept 1832 in Licking Co., OH; she married Harrison Hartman in Licking Co., no later than 1860; they moved to Preston Co., WV in 1868; she died 24 July 1915 in Preston Co.
According to the census, Chastina Sherman Hartman's father was born in Vermont, and her mother was born in Ohio. According to my grandmother, our ancestors moved to Licking county because someone in the family was a preacher. Chastina's oldest son was named Stephen A. Hartman.
How many preachers from Vermont would there have been in Licking county in the 1830's? I'm fairly confident that Rev. Edmund Sherman was Chastina's father, but I don't know how to link them up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
