Thanks very much for your responses. They help me a lot, especially to confirm what I suspected--that there were two Harrison Hartmans living in Licking County at the same time. The one for whom you have given the obituary is no relation of mine, but that's good to know, so that I don't confuse the two--and I hope it can be of help to anyone else researching either Harrison Hartman.
My gg-grandfather Harrison Hartman was born in Kingwood, Preston Co., West Virginia 09 April 1821. He was still living in Preston Co. at the time the 1850 census was taken. Sometime between 1850-1860, he migrated to Licking Co., Ohio. He was married in Licking Co. to a local girl, Chastina Sherman, who was born in Ohio 24 Sept 1832. Their first child (& my great-grandfather) Stephen Albert Douglas Hartman was born in Licking Co. 20 March 1861.
They were Methodist.
By 1868, the Hartman family had moved to Preston Co., WV, for good.
Harrison Hartman died 11 Sept 1883 in Kingwood, WV. Chastina Sherman Hartman died 24 July 1915 in Tunnelton, WV.
Their children were: Stephen Albert Douglas Hartman, John Wesley Hartman, Mary Catherine Hartman, Simon Hartman, Oscar Hartman, Dacy Hartman, David Hartman, & Florence Hartman.
