I have recently developed information about Elizabeth and Lydia Patterson, daughters of Licking County pioneer Adam Patterson. Adam settled his family near Homer in Burlington Township before 1810; he wasburied in Patterson Cemetery in 1855.
Daughters Elizabeth and Lydia, both born in Augusta County, Virginia, by his first wife Sophia Jones have remained mysteries. Land transactions were recorded in Licking County in 1819 and a marriage record for Lydia Patterson and Philip B. Moore in 1820 were the extent of the records available.
Using census and cemetery records, I have determined that both Elizabeth and Lydia left Licking County shortly before 1850 with their brother Ephraim Patterson (by wife Rebecca Moore) for Iowa. In the 1850 census, Ephraim and his wife Eve Fry are in Johnson County, Iowa while Elizabeth Patterson and Philip and Lydia Moore are just across the county line in Washington County, Elizabeth's son Cyrus was among the family members living in Iowa.
