John D. Rutter lived for many years in Lorain, with his wife Mary Ann, and several children. At the time of the 1920 census he was a widower living with his daughter Naomi and her husband in Lorain.
I contacted a genealogist who has access to the burial records for Elmwood Cemetery, which is the cemetery for the city of Lorain. John D. Rutter was buried in Elmwood Cemetery on April 30,1927, next to his wife Mary Ann who was buried there in 1913. In the same family plot is a daughter Carrie Rutter, who died in 1915.
The cemetery records indicate that John D. Rutter died of pneumonia in Jewett, Ohio. The family is buried in lot 1, section W.
It would appear that his marriage to Jennie Johnson Rutter was his second marriage, and occured after 1920.
