It has been a while since we have made contact. You are "dead on" about the marriage of Bird Johnson and Lillie Woodmansee. I have a couple of references to the marriage.
The first is in a 1916 History of Lorain County. Lillie and Bird are mentioned in the biographical article on Floyd M. Pelton. It seems that Floyd married a Charlotte Johnson, who was a sister of Bird Johnson. In covering Charlotte's family, it mentions that she was the daughter of Elijah Johnson and Lydia (Haynes) Johnson. Also mentioned is the fact that Charlotte was one of six children. An exact transcription from the history follows:
"Of the six Johnson children five grew up and four are still living. The son Bird died leaving a wife who before marriage bore the name of Lillie Woodmansee, and two children, Ford and Luella."
The sketch continues with biographical information on Charlotte's other siblings.
I was also at the library the other day, and spent a little time in the microfilm room. I ran a copy of the obit for Lillian Bassett from the Lorain Journal of Sept.15,1941. It doesn't mention her marriage to Bird, but it does mention she is survived by a daughter Mrs. Alfred Moehle of Kent, Ohio. This is her daughter Luella mentioned in the history. Some information on Lillian's death certificate was furnished by Luella Moehle of Kent, Ohio.
Also I went through some microfilm from Lorain County Probate Court, which has the marriage application records from March 1875 thru April 1884. I found the record of the marriage application for Bird Johnson and Lillie Woodmansee. The application was taken out by Elijah Johnson on August 16,1883. The only strange thing on the marriage certificate is that the name Bird appears to me as Burt or Burl. Perhaps the person filling out the certificate heard the name wrong.
Anyway your hunch about the marriage was correct. If you send me your snail mail address, I will be happy to send you copies of the source material.
