Sister Mary Irene, R.S.M., 79, former director of nursing schools at Mercy Hospital, Toledo, and St. Rita's Hospital, Lima, died Tuesday in Fremont Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient at Our Lady of the Pines, Fremont, for several years. Sister Mary Irene, the former Bernice Watson, of Cleveland, was director of the Toledo Mercy Hospital school from 1929 to 1935 and again from 1943 to 1947. She was director of the nursing school at St. Rita's, Lima, from 1921 to 1928. She entered the novitiate in 1917 and took her first vows Sept. 2, 1919. She was a graduate of the St. Rita's Hospital school of nursing and earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing education from the old DeSales College, Toledo and a master's degree from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. in 1939. Surviving are a half sister, Mrs. Dorothy Moncrief, of Sandusky and stepsisters, Mrs. Margaret Toerge and Mrs. Mary Hoelzer, both of Sandusky, and Mrs. Mabel Morgan, Columbus. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Church, Fremont, with burial in Sister's Cemetery, Our Lady of the Pines. The body is in the Chapel Parlor of Our Lady of the Pines.
