That's great info, Bill.I should mention that I have also located a Genevieve Prosper who married a Thompson in Defiance.Thompson died and she remarried and relocated to Saginaw, where she died in the 1930's in her 90's.I have been emailed a copy of her death certificate; it says born France about 1847. (My experience shows that some French-Canadians have France on their census data - don't know if it's a language discrepancy with the census taker or national pride, or she may acurally haave been born FR.). My greatgrandmother Eliz. Barbeau is said to have been born in Malone, NY. and I guess it is possible that families went back and forth at that time.So it may be that four Barbeau siblings came to Defiance, OH by mid-1860's.I have never found anything about their parents (my ultimate search, naturally). Marie LaChapelle's daughter Gusta married a Swilley in Hicksville; she died in childbirth, leaving one daughter (Laura, I believe), for whom I found a marriage ca 1920's, but nothing thereafter.
