I looked William up to answer a question on Yahoo! Answers. I'm copying it here, mostly to brag, but someone out there may be able to use it.
I'm not related; I do genealogy the way normal people do crosswords.
How can I obtain birth information about my great great grandfather?
I am working on my family tree and I am stuck on my grandpa's grandpa. He does not know exactly when he was born, and they don't keep birth records in the 1800's I was told. I need to get his parents' names and information also. How do I get this if I know absolutely nothing about this person? Oh I've also tried searching for marriage and death records too and I can find absolutely nothing.
I was told he was born in New Paris, IL but that town doesn't exist. His name is William (Harry/Harrison) Hawkins. I found his marriage certificate in Mercer, Ohio but the only info it says is that they were married before 1908. It does not provide his Birth date or birth place. I've tried looking on censuses, but it's difficult when I'm not sure if he was born in New Paris, OH, or another town in IL. Nobody knows if he had any siblings, either ...
With such scant data, you'd need help from someone who was vastly experienced, incredibly intelligent, and, above all, devilishly handsome. BOY, are you lucky!

Mr. Stump is a farmer, so that "Servant" relationship doesn't mean William answered the door in his morning coat holding a silver tray for visiting cards; given Mr. Stump's age, William probably did most of the heavy labor around the farm.
Now that we know how old he is, we can try for other census records outside of Mercer County.

Harry is the manager of a poultry house. It is looking like "Ill, Oh, Oh" is the proper combination of BPs.
I turned to the LDS "Pilot" data base,

Here he is in 1880, hiding out as "Harra". Note the BPs are Ill, Oh, Oh, and his parents' name match the wedding record, and he spent part of his boyhood in Indiana; all facts we have seen, sometimes muddled, in census entries before.

Note that William is a year younger than his wife, a rare thing back then.That's important, for
1870: Paris, Edgar, Illinois; Roll: M593_218; Page: 146B; Image: 300;
William Hawkins 32 Ohio farmer
Eliza Hawkins Ohio 33
Ettie R Hawkins Ohio 5
Annie M Hawkins Illinois 1
William Parrot Arkansas 18 farm laborer
Note the parents are born in Ohio, ages are 10 years less than 1880, Eliza is a year older than William, Ettie is the oldest child. I'd lay large sums at long odds that these are them and your William will be born next year in Paris.
