I've done a fair bit of research going backward from my Great Grandfather (Horatio Nelson Geddes) born in Bremer Iowa abt. 1863. His father William Geddes was born abt. 1838 in Ohio. Mother was Sarah Geddes (apparently a cousin, (raised by Horatio H Geddes) but I think a step cousin) My William abt. 1838 was raised by Samuel Geddis and Rosannah Eveland in Morgan Ohio, Dewitt Illinois, then Bremer Iowa. There is a pretty good link back to Plumstead, Bucks through a William who I think is Samuel's father through Samuel's brothers Horatio H. and Hamilton Geddes. Starting at the top I have William (abt. 1690) John Gaddes (1720 - 1775), John Geddes (1750 - 1827) William (abt 1786 - 1843), Samuel Geddis (abt.1820 - ?) William Geddes (abt.1838 - 1922) Horatio Nelson Geddes (1863 - 1924). My two missing links are 1. In Morgan, Ohio where I have Samuel and Rosannah's marriage but no proof of Williams birth or parentage and 2. Uncertainty on William abt. 1786's link back through Plumstead, Bucks - but pretty clear through his probable siblings ( Hezekiah, Moses, etc. ). Finally most of these men were carpenters - something that seems to have continued right through the generations. My grandfather and father were pretty handy at carpentry! I've tried to follow that angle as well. If anyone can help with information or places to look I'm really happy to share the detail of what I have with sources. I do have all the descendants of HNG from work done by a great aunt.
