Hi Brad, My great grandfather was Joseph Strohl.Family oral history says that he did muster out of the Union Army at Vicksburg and that he fought in that battle. He was an officer. His widow, Malinda Tatman-Strohl received a Civil War pension. My family's oral history says that John Strohl was an officer in Sherman's Army.John Adam William Strohl was the father of Joe and John Strohl and other children one of whose name was Noah, I think. John Adam William Strohl and this son traveled to Loop County Nebraska after the War and homesteaded there and established a small town called Strohl. (We have a picture of John Adam William Strohl who we think was born in 1802 in Pennsylvania; married Elizabeth Rittger in 1833 in Hocking County, Ohio, and died in 1896 in Loop County Nebraska.) There are Strohl's in Loop County the last I heard but the town has vanished. My great grandfather, Joesph Strohl got a Civil War land grant near Champaign, Illinois, where my grandfather and father were born.
