Looking for the parents and/or siblings of Percilla Monroe, b. 25 Aug 1827 in either OH or IN. On 4 Apr 1843 in Pike County OH she married James Wm. HOOBER (sometimes spelled as HOOVER). On the 1850 Pike County Census the names Moses Monroe, Sr. age 35 and Moses Monroe, Jr. age 14 are shown living in the "Hoover" household. Perhaps Percilla's brother and nephew?
Census records show Percilla and James "Hoover" (Hoober) were in Pike County OH in 1850, Fayette County OH in 1860, Unknown in 1870 (possibly IN or IA), Cowley County KS in 1880, and Harper County KS in 1885, 1895, 1900.
Children listed in those censuses were: John H. (1845), Elizabeth "C" (1847), Jacob (abt. 1850), Sarah (abt. 1852), William (abt. 1854), James H. (1856), Barbara (abt. 1857), Mary A.(abt. 1860), Augustus H. (1861), Frank (abt. 1862), and Abraham "Lewis" Hoober (1864).
Two of James & Percilla's children were married in Pulaski County IN - John H. to Ettie Howell(1869) and Elizabeth K. to Ananias Meeker(1868).
The Hoober family moved to KS around 1877. It is believed that Moses Monroe may have went with them. In a Cowley County newspaper (Winfield Courier - 27 Oct 1881) there is a Moses Monroe listed as a Civil War veteran of 15th IND. Also shown on an 1882 Cowley Co., KS Census is a Moses Monroe, age 43 and Mary S. Monroe, age 49 living in Rock Township (the same twp as James and Percilla)...
The Hoober family were Methodist.
If any of the names mentioned above sound familiar, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!
