My g-grandfather, Jacob Bentley b 12/19/1851 in either Montgomery Co. or Castine, Darke Co; d. 11/8/1924 Dayton; and married 3/18/1875 in West Manchester, Ohio to Sarah Elizabeth Braddock b. 12/6/1856; d. 11/28/1939 Dayton, Ohio. Family records indicate she was born and married in West Manchester. I have searched both the Preble County Marriage index and birth index for Sarah but have not found her. I gathered the information on her from her death certificate and that of her children. Family tradition and records indicate Sarah’s father was James Braddock b. 1833 Ohio and d. 1909 ?, buried in Castine. Here mother was Margaret Ruse b 1834 also in Ohio, died 1891, also buried in Castine.
I am looking for additional info on Sarah, James, and Margaret. Here is what I have found regarding the Braddock and Ruse families:
Lodge 520 IOOOF lists J Braddock as warden in 1872 charter in West Manchester. Preble County Land Tax list 1890 James Braddock lot in West Manchester value $340. Preble County 1850 Census – page 140 in Index, 427 Aug 21 Twin Twp: Braddock, James 17 M b. Ohio living with John Demott family Page 141 index, 428 Aug 21 Twin Twp: Franklin Braddock 11 M b. Ohio living with John Floyd 60 Va, Mary Floyd 63 Va, and Mary Fleshman 94 Va Page 130 Index, 412 Aug 6 Harrison Twp: Braddock Ralph, 54 b. Ohio living alone
Could Ralph be the father of James and Franklin? Is the above James the same as my James?
In the probate records: #3010 - Ralph Braddock, it lists the administrator as James Braddock. Filed 10 March 1864.
In the probate records: #5538 - Henry Banta died 11/23/1886 and James Braddock is mentioned in the case. (I only have seen the abstract so I do not know why he is mentioned)

The info I have on Margaret Ruse’s birth could be inaccurate so is the above my Margaret?
Another set of questions comes due to Jacob Bentley’s parents. Jacob’s parents were Isaac Bentley b. 2/15/1820 location unknown; d 10/21/1882 Dareke Co. Ohio; married an Elizabeth Zehring in Montgomery County, Ohio 11/18/1849 and moved to Darke, County, Ohio. Elizabeth was born 7/22/1814 Lancaster PA, and died June 27, 1916 in Dayton, Ohio. An article in the Dayton paper around her one-hundredth birthday indicates her parents came to Montgomery County, Madison TWP when she was very young. Her death certificate indicates her father was Adam Zehring, born in Germany.
While I was looking through the Preble probate abstracts for the Jacob and Sarah Bentley, I came across case #2762 – Adam Sayring – executive Joseph Sayring. No will found. Filed 8 nov 1851. Heirs: Jacob and Joseph Sayring and Elizabeth Bentley w/o Isaac Bently. Isaac Bentley and Jacob Sayring vs. Joseph Sayring concerning bond. Agreement by heirs, widow Elizabeth to have 1/3; other heirs to have 2/3 and at Elizabeth’s death any residue to be deviced equally among other heirs. Also: #2819 – Joseph Sayring died June 4, 1863. Among the debts owed is an entry: Isaac Bentley for boarding Elizabeth.
Since we see that Joseph’s mother is Elizabeth, I am assuming that the Elizabeth mentioned in Joseph’s probate is Joseph’s mother – not his sister.
