Thank you so much for trying. He has no record of WWI but does have a registration card for WWII. He was too old to serve (52) but I guess everyone had to register. I do have a choppy scanned copy from the newspaper on the accident. I wrote to the editor 2 months ago asking if it was possible to get a cleaner copy and to find out if there was an obit written up in the newspaper but he never answered me back. I have the info on the death certificate but no obit.
I took the advice of someone else who responded and sent for the social security application info. I heard back but they have no info on him except for his ssn. No place of birth, parents, wife, kids, or anything else for that matter. They did not even have the date of his death. I have that and they don't???
How can a man avoid the census, SS information, have two different possible birth counties (I called both and neither have a record of him), have no marriage info, residence, etc?
Here is something odd I found. My grandfather listed Woodsfield, Monroe County as place of birth in 1889. I looked into all Kings born there from 1880 to 1895. I did find a James Franklin King, 5 years younger, born in the same town, both filled out a WWII registration card and both have basically the same middle name (Frank, Franklin), same last name and when I compared the two signatures, they were almost identical. The "F" was written the same, the name King was written the same and both wrote the last name so it kinda fell off the paper. It was a bit too creepy. But I know this James lived in West Virginia and I believe married there around the same time my grandfather was married to Anna Francis Moon in Ohio. He (James) also died there I believe so it can't be one in the same.
Is there any way to find out about his residence/place of work? He listed it on the WWII card as Frank Cave's Farm for employment and also the same address as his residence. That was when he was 52. But the girl in the Mansfield Town Hall said he was a retired steelworker. I don't think he was retired at 52 and then became a farmer. Too many things don't add up. So far he has been under the radar. Even the article about the accident lists him as L.F. King.
I keep hitting brick walls. How can there be no info at the SS office? No parent name, no POB, no school record, marriage record. Only other proof I have is he signed the death certificate for my uncle who died as a baby from measles in 1948. I don't know who else to call or write to.
Maybe he was illegal, from Canada, and kept under the radar???? Or an orphan?? Or was in trouble with the law?? Using a different name?? Where do I turn now?
