I am intending to offend anyone with this, I'm just trying to set the record straight!
I recently have been working on the COLLEYS of Scioto Co., Ohio, specifically ABEL COLLEY and his son ALLEN COLLEY.I've noticed that there are 27 trees on Ancestry.com and one on RootsWeb.com's World Connect that list his parents as John Colley and Sarah France.
I have checked all 27 of these trees and only found one tree that attempted to cite any sources. When looking at this cited source I found that it was for an ABEL COLLEY who was born in11 Mar 1792 in Fayette co., PA & whose parents were listed as Peter Colley & Nancy Noland. Since the Abel of Scioto Co was born ca 1810 in Va (some censuses say Ohio), the owner of this tree can only be called a "sloppy researcher."None of the other trees list any citation what so ever.I can only assume that one lazy researcher assumed Abel was John's son, and "published" their tree with that info on line. Then other researchers who did not take the time to check for documentation just copied what the first person did--and it snowballed. (Let this be a lesson-Genealogists should check and cite their sources).
ALL OF MY RESEARCH INDICATES HIS PARENTS WERE ALLEN CORLEY/CAWLEY/CAULLEY/COLLEY and his wife MARY SINER.
I spent this afternoon documenting my "theory" (I say theory since there is no single piece of paper naming them as father/son).You can find all of my "CIRCUMSTANTIAL" proof at http://www.caulleyscorner.com/AbelColleyProof/WhoWereAbelsParents.htmlhttp://www.caulleyscorner.com/AbelColleyProof/WhoWereAbelsParents.htmlI have linked all supporting documents and research notes.
I have not intended to offend anyone with this, just trying to set the record straight!
