My great grandfather was George Washington Young b. 22 March 1840 at Stark Co., Ohio. He was son of George Young (b. 13 Oct 1797 in PA. also have another date of 13 Dec 1797 and no documentation on either)and Phebe Mendenhall (dau of Israel Mendenhall and Sarah Michener-Quaker lines published in Micheners in America and More Micheners in America)b. 31 Dec 1814 PA. (on 1850 census) George (he was a blacksmith) and Phebe with their children are on 1850 census at Atwater, Portage County, Ohio. Georged. poss. 30 Sep 1852 and Phebe d. 16 Oct 1855 but no documentation on either. George and Phebe and children are listed in both of the Micheners in America books. Their ch.: Thomas Mendenhall b. 19 Aug 1834 and his descendants are in Wisconsin; Sarah I. b. 27 Mar 1836 her descendants in New Jersey; William Henry b. 08 Aug 1847;Anna M. b. 08 Sep 1838; George Washington b. 22 Mar 1840 my g grandfather and settled in Oregon; Isaac N. b. 10 Mar 1842; Milton I. b. 12 Dec 1843; Edward Gilbert b. 25 Jun 1846.Have Edward Gilbert obituary that names his parents and mentions "many" children.Have copy of pencil written letter from Wm. H. to Geo. W. dated late 1800's that mentions Uncles: Milton (in York Co., Neb., Will he was at Morgan Co.,,Thomas, Isaac and Edward G.Know most of these ch. were in the Civil War. A Paul Woke has supposedly written a genealogy that includes our Youngs but I have been unable to locate the published research or any documentation.See Woke Family History by Paul Woke - if you can find the book. More bits and pieces here and there from a lot of research. We broke the bank just finding them on the 1850 census and not much since.
