According to National Archives Cert. # 691-686, can # 55-550, bundle 11;I obtained this following information. John Miller and David Riggle were boyhood friends (having lived about ½ mile apart and schoolmates that attended the same school for over ten years. John Miller is described as having a dark complexion, brown eyes, and black hair.
John Miller, in Alliance Ohio went into the Union Army in 20 September 1861 as a private under Captain Phillip ________ of Company I, 19th Regt. OVI.In record and pension division of the War Department, it is shown that John Miller re-enlisted either Jan. or June 1 1864.Discharged in San Antonio Texas on 24 October 1865. John Miller was member of Company I,19th Regular OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) in the Civil War (Late war of the Rebellion).John Miller incurred a gunshot wound to the right side by the enemy in the line of duty at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia on July 19, 1864.John was sent to a hospital in Nashville Tennessee where his wound was dressed by Regimental Surgeon Sowers and furloughed home for sixty days.Sworn testimony for this claim (788445) from Benjamin F. Werner, comrade (Louisville, Stark Co. Ohio), John White(Hibbits or Hibbels,Carroll Co. Ohio), David Riggle(West Brookfield, Tuscarawas Twp., Stark Co. Ohio), and Jacob Lutz or Lentz from Sippo, Stark County Ohio.
Have a Certified Copy of Marriage Record of John Miller and Rebecca Walter issued 19 October 1867, State of Ohio Stark County.Joseph Heckman, Justice of the Peace, certified that on 24 October 1867 John Miller and Rebecca Walter were legally joined in marriage by him in Massillon Ohio.Found in Stark County Probate Count Volume 6, Page 562.It is stated on the Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension that John Miller was a farmer and his address is Canton, Stark County Ohio signed on 18 July 1900.

According to the Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension dated18 July 1888, John Miller was 49 years old.This would make year of birth approximately 1839. It states that he requests to be examined in his own County, Alliance Ohio.According to Dept. of Interior’s Bureau of Pensions, John Miller was making 12 dollars per month pension at this time and was dropped from the rolls on 9 October 1909.
According to Widow’s pension, Rebecca, age 63, would have been born approximately in 1846.It states there are three sons and one daughter all living and over the age of 16. This document was signed on 25 September 1909.
