Lemuel P. PORTER enlisted in Battery D of the 1st OH Light Artillery on 1 Sep 1861 at age 22.
He was named after his paternal grandfather and is the 20 year old son of Simeon and Eliza PORTER, in the 1860 Cleveland census. The household included Simeon C. 53 architect CT, Eliza C. 48 CT, Lemuel 20 OH, Emily C. 17 OH, Margaret A. 14 OH and Charles 6 OH.

Lemuel's two sisters, Emily C. and Margaret A. both married Charles GILLETT. He was married first to Emily btwn May 1866 and July 1867. After Emily's death on 28 Feb 1880, he married Margaret, btwn Jan. and Nov. 1882.
