Thank you for replying to my message. I'm trying to unravel a lot of unverified family stories. I was told that one of my great-grandmothers was a "college" teacher in Montpelier before her marriage, ca. 1852. Until recently, I assumed this meant the capital of Vermont. Now, I think Ohio is the more likely location. Although I very much doubt she could have been a college teacher, she might have been teaching in a school for children or young women. My great-grandmother was Sarah "Sally" Smith, who married John Oliver Platter. Other associated family names are Oliver, Mathews, Robinson/Robertson, Munn, Farmer, and possibly some variant of the name Stillwagon, Stillwagen, Stellwagon, or Stellwagen.
