Sam Martin is recorded on my wife's birth certificate as her father. It records his home to be Tulsa, Oklahoma and his birth year to be 1904. That is the extent of my present knowledge of him.
Her birth mother was Gladys Louise Piano, born July 27, 1913 in Memphis, Tennessee and died Dec 10, 1965 in Miami, Florida. Their address shows as 1429 NW 8th Ave., Miami.
Lana, my wife, was born June 17, 1940 at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami. The Fla. birth certificate is recorded in book #132A, Page #13512
Louise was planning to give Lana up for adoption, but the couple with whom she resided (1429 NW 7th Terrace) wouldn't hear of that and simply brought her home from the hospital when she was only 3 or 4 days old. They were already retired.
Curiously enough the 1940 Federal Census shows Louise to be residing at 1429 NW 8th Avenue with her sister from Dallas, Rose Kimball. It is a coincidence that both streets have the same house number.
Shortly after Lana's birth Louise met and married John Sebastian Cimino, to whom she remained married until her death.I've never found any certificate of marriage nor divorce between Louise and Sam Martin.
I have sent e-mails to Louises's surviving children with John Cimino but haven't received any replies. I'm certain they know about her but maybe don't wish to deal with this chapter of their mother's life. And I cannot rule out the possibility that my Sam Martin never knew about Lana.
I've searched hundreds of records looking for Sam Martin of Tulsa and there are several who fit, but I cannot place any, as yet, to being in Miami in 1939-1940. I've searched all military records (there is a ton of Sam, Samuel, and S. martins showing but they list enlistment dates). Have spent loads of time looking through city directories and the SSI death index. The SSDI lists 219,937 Martins and 563 Martins with the first name of Samuel. I'm working through all that. And there are many other records through which I have searched.
Florida records for the Dept. of Vital Statistics didn't require any more information on the parents other than name, address, year and place of birth.
Its a real challenge and I need some fresh information. Hope something in here rings a bell for you. You probably wouldn't believe the size of my Louise Piano folder!
