JOE GIBBS and J W CLARK had a saloon in the Claremore community in Oklahoma. In 1895 they sold bad whiskey to ALEC COCHRAN whose daughter was JENNIE, a school teacher in Waggoner, Indian Territory. Jennie married EDDIE REED in 1895. Eddie Reed had been sent to prison by Judge Isaac Parker but after only a few months he was released and Judge Parker appointed him a United States Marshall.
Alec Cochran, being poisoned, and hoping he would not live long enough to tell about being poisoned by the bad whiskey in their saloon, Gibbs and Clark left Cochran to die in a garbage dump. Cochran lived long enough however, to tell his son-in-law, Marshall EDDIE REED. On December 14, 1896 Marshall Eddie Reed entered the Gibbs and Clark saloon, with his guns drawn, to close the saloon and arrest Gibbs and Clark for causing the death of his father-in-law. Eddie Reed ran the owners out of their saloon but Gibbs and Clark returned later with shotguns and killed Eddie Reed. Eddie Reed was buried in the Cochran Cemetery six miles SE of Claremore, near the Catoosa Community in Oklahoma.
