Alex died after the 1930 and before the 1940 Census. Oklahoma doesn't publish their vital record dates so you'll have to search through indexed cemeteries, obituaries, etc.
You can apply for a copy of his death certificate, www.ok.gov/health/Birth_and_Death_Certificates but there are restrictive rules.

Sarah E. Cochran
Born: 2 May 1879
MAYBE Last Residence: Tahlequah, Cherokee, OK
Died: 15 July 1971

You should verify both deaths by finding their obituaries. You can contact the Rogers County Genealogical Society, www.okgenweb.org/~okrogers/rcgs.html or Tulsa Genealogical Society, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~oktgs/.
I'd also try to find other/more newspaper articles about what happened. You might be able to get newspapers on microfilm through inter-library loan or history books about the Cherokee Nation in 1895. Contact your local library.
