I am endeavoring to locate where a man by the name of Rufus P. Highnote (sometimes listed as R. P. or R. E. Highnote) is buried. He was killed on 4-7-1918 in a very public shooting in Wirt, OK.He was somewhat of a bad character.
However, in doing research in Oklahoma and Texas over the years, I find that often the place that has the plot information (which graves are filled, which plots are owned by people, which plots are available to bury in) will have information on people buried in the cemetery even though there is not a headstone for that person.
I have had a couple of people check the cemetery books for Carter County for me. What I have found about the cemetery books for Hewitt and a few other cemetaries in Carter County, is that most were made up by canvassing the cemetery (that is a group of people simply walked the cemetery writing down all the names/dates/etc.
I thought perhaps if I could locate the office/place that has the plot information, a reference to Rufus P. Highnote might be found. He was born 12-1861 and was killed 4-7-1918.
