Rochelle, I didn't know if you had found any help from your posting but wanted to help answer some questions for you-
I have a copy of the Butler Cemetery list from our Custer County Cemetery book & we are working on updates on the cemeteries- I checked the list & find; Huddleston's there listed; S.L 10-10-1901 58 yrs Nora 11-23-1876 d. 4-23-1971 Steven H. 12-16-1872 d. 1-5-1958 Husband of Nora V.L. 5-22-1844 d. 1906
** You listed she died in 1901 so I just wanted to check on this date.. with you is this the same lady? Do you know of any other of this surname buried there? let me know...if so..
To answer your questions= 1. Yes you will need permission from the cemetery director or board to post a new permanent marker on the gravesite in the Butler Cemetery....I don't know who you would contact but will check cause I'm wanting to get in touch with them too to get a update on recent burials in the last 10- years in this cemetery. but see ? 2.
2. The monument co will know who to get in touch with at the Butler Cemetery I'd bet.. & There are 2 monument company's listed in the yellow pages for Clinton- One is the Nicholson Monument Co. phone 580-323-7513 & the Clinton Monument Works phone 580-323-4382, I haven't compared prices so don't know who to suggest, but we used the one on the main road coming from Arapaho into Clinton before & I've forgotten their names.
3. The Custer County courthouse is in Arapaho..(just north of Clinton) turn off the hiway & go east to downtown mainstreet Arapaho & turn north abt 2 blocks & you will find the courthouse.. County clerks office on 2nd floor. You might want to call ahead & ask their hours & cost of copies,etc....It might take them a while to find the file... they are stored up high & hard to get too if I remember. BUT There is a probate index listing for Huddleston, Osie, Ray & Gladys 3-23- 1906 case # 348. I checked UP to 1948 & didn't see any other listings for the surname Huddleston.
? You might check with the Clinton Library to see if they have a copy of the 1900 census on microfilm in their library? The Monument company in Clinton could help you with the phone # for the library in Clinton.
