I am a Dewey County volunteer.I saw your query and went to the Seiling library today and looked for the obituary of Bryron Samuel DeGraw.Unfortunately the newspapers that would have his obituary are missing. From June 1928 to December 1934 there are no Taloga newspapers on microfilm so I have no source to find his obituary.
I looked up Katrine's obituary. She died in December 1962.I found her obituary and I will transcribe it for you at the end of this reply. In Kathrine's obituary it says that she married Samuel Byron DeGraw who was from Hennessey, Oklahoma in 1897.Since Byron had been married before Kathrine, I went searching for Anna Bothwell DeGraw in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma (where Hennessey is located).I found her listed as being buried in the Hennessey Cemetery. She is listed as Anna DeGraU.Date of Birth is September 1, 1857 and Date of Death is August 23, 1896.I think this is Bryon's first wife and that someone has read the tombstone wrong or transcribed it wrong.Anna died in 1896 while living in Hennessey with Byron and her children and he met and married Kathrine while he lived in Hennessey.I don't know if there is a volunteer from Kingfisher County but you might try to contact one for a lookup of Anna's obituary.
I found Byron and Katie (married for 4 years) with children Claude C., Joseph P., Guy O., Mary F., Bessie N., Newton R., Bert W., and Lee in the 1900 Homestead Twp, Blaine County, Oklahoma census.Only Bert and Lee are Katie's children. The other children's mother was born in Illinois.Katie was born in Germany.Only Bert W. and Lee's mother was born in Germany. In 1910 they are in the Cantonment Twp, Blaine County, Oklahoma census they have children Bessie, Rector, Burt, Lee, Fay, Melvin, and Viola.Park DeGraw lives in the same county.I found many of the children living in Oklahoma in 1920 and 1930.
There is an image of Byron and Katie's tombstone in Mound Cemetery on the Dewey County genweb site.Just go down to Mound Cemetery and do a surname search. You can access the image and save it if you want to.
I am really sorry that we did not have the paper that Byron's obituary would be in.I know that it would have contained the verification that you probably need for Anna's death.
Taloga Times Advocate, Taloga, Oklahoma newspaper, Thursday January 3, 1963, Page 3.....OBITUARY
Catherine Huffman (to all her friends just "Katie"), daughter of Fred and Mary Huffman was born in Germany on October 11, 1877.She came with her parents to America at the age of 14 and settled in Okeene, Oklahoma.
In the year 1897 she was united in marriage to Samuel Byron DeGraw of Hennessey, Oklahoma.Later they moved to a farm near Canton.Seven children were born to this union. In 1910 the family moved to Dewey County near Seiling, Oklahoma, then later to Taloga.Mr. DeGraw passed away December 22, 1928.The deceased was then married to Walter Romine of Taloga in 1934.Mr. Romine passed away March 14, 1946.
Preceding their mother in death were four sons, Bert, Lee, Ruben and Otis; also 3 grandchildren and 7 brothers also preceded her in death.
Those who survive include 3 children, Mrs. Iva Potuznik of Alva, (OK); Viola Hubbard of Parks, Arizona; and Melvin DeGraw of Pierce City, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Pete, Abe, Andrew and John Huffman; 5 sisters, Mary Gody, Maggie Meyer, Martha Weiderman, Hannah Labuach and Racheal Reddin, and other relatives and many many friends. She was a member of the Taloga Assembly of God Church and was one of the happiest elderly ladies I have ever known, always scattering sunshine to all her neighbors and friends.
Buried in the Mound Cemetery south of Taloga, Oklahoma is Byron S., Katie, Lee, Leland, Bert, and Jean DeGraw. This pictures can all be seen thru the Mound Cemetery image database.
I hope this information will help you.If Hennessey had any papers that were in existence and were put on microfilm, you should be able to get a copy of Anna's obituary.I don't get to Hennessey...but if I should happen thru there, I'll get a picture of Anna's tombstone.Good luck.
