Has anyone heard of a Manning Rackerd or Packard? My Great Great Grandfather, James Harvey Vernon, took a 6 week trip from MO into OK in 1900 and wrote about it. His notes were typed by someone at some time. Apparently his handwriting was hard to read and there are many spelling mistakes. James Vernon wrote Sept. 4th 1900 "This morning we went south and crossed Canadian River. This is a large stream, 540 yards wide, south 1/4 mile in Talogna, the County seat of Dewey County. We are here waiting for mail. Then west to Lenora. Here we met Manning Rackerd and camped for the night. We talked with many mena about locations." I am considering retracing James' steps, in a car! Perhaps Manning was traveling through also. If anyone has any suggestions I would like to figure out who Manning Rackerd was. Maybe someone has other suggestions for what his last name might be? Thank You!
