I am trying to tie down the years that my mother's family lived in Oklahoma. My grandfather, Myrtle D Cross (AKA Myrt) was a Marshall in Grady County at some time.(The "D" was initial only, but he also went by a nickname of "Dick" at times.) One son, Cecil D (initial only) m. Laura Lois Ross in Rush Springs in 1932 and another son, John Raymond, m. Charlena Williams in Chicksha in 1931.
But, I know that they lived in Archer Co., Tx. in 1930 (Census records)and Myrt's wife, Lyda, was buried there in 1931.His two youngest sons, in 1930, were 10 and 7 years of age. From family stories, when the two youngest boys were very young ("too young to go to the fields and work"...which would be younger than 10, I think) they lived in Oklahoma. So, there is a strong possibility they they lived there when they were very small, moved to Texas where Lyda passed away, and then moved back to Oklahoma, where the two oldest boys got married.
Can anyone help me?
Could someone see if they can find any information about Myrt's being a Marshall in Grady County, maybe in 1931/1932?Or possibly when they first(?) lived there 1923-1930?I am guessing about these years based on Census records of their living in Texas and marriage records for both of the oldest boys.
There were some great ghost stories told as fact that happened while this family lived in Oklahoma. The homeplace was even staked out by local law enforcement officers and citizens to try to find how the "happenings" were caused, but to no avail.Perhaps these events were reported in some local paper?Does anyone have any knowledge of this? They would have occurred during the above mentioned years....depending on when the family lived there.
