Please let me know if I am in the right place to ask these questions.I have been researching a family story involving a murder that occurred in 1904 in Chickasaw.Since hearing the story I have attempted to corroborate the names involved and to that end here goes the story:
William Ambrose Morrow was farming in 1904 when he was shot and killed in what was told as an accident as he stepped down from his wagon when returning from a day of checking over his farm with his farmhand Hodges who sat in the seat beside him.Thomas Vernon Morrow, his son, was in the wagon seated behind them. After the shooting Hodges took off so Thomas Vernon and Federal Marshal Frey immediately took pursuit, probably on horseback , tracking down Hodges.Upon returning home the Marshal told Ida Lillian Morrow, the oldest daughter, "this fellow won't bother them again".
I found a Henry Frey in the 1900 Census of Grady County living not far from the Morrow's and also a Frank Hodge is in that Census and lists "stockman" as his profession.
My question is, if this truly occurred what is my next move on research.Should I check for a court record of this Hodge to see if he was tried and if I do what would have been the District Court for Chickasaw?Or should I research the Marshall Frey of the story.
Any direction you can give me would be appreciated.
