Walter Marion was my great grandfather. My grandfather was Walter Lee Elam...also known as Ted. Esther was my great grandmother. The reason you can't find Esther is that; she remarried after Walter Marion died. Esther's family all called her "Easter"...its how they pronounced her name.
Walter Lee married Opal Virginea Wallace ....his brother Bill married her sister as well. A bunch of double cousins there, but that's a diferent subjet.
Walter Lee and Opal had 7 children; Walter Jack Elam called Jack... born in 1926 just before Marion's death, Bobbie Gene , Wallace Buck, Claude Wayne, Clyde Duane(my dad)...they were twins also known as Pinky & Blackie..my dad was Pinky. They had a daughter named Barbara Kay....accidentally killed at age 13. Also the youngest son wasnamed Richard Lee.All gone now but uncle Blackie who lives down in Purcell,OK. Not far from me
Esther was Emily's daughter from a previous marriage. That's why they had the same name.Yes, Walter Marion married his step daughter. Papa Elam(Walter Lee Elam)used to say "he was born to the last litter". There sure was a bunch of them. So many half brothers and sisters.
Esther married a man named Heevy Riggs. And had to kids from that marriage; Sonny (Son) Riggs and Bertha who went by Bert.I knew them well. I never met granny Esther though. She died shortly before my birth in 1957. She is buried at the Pauls Valley,OK semetery next to Heevy. Now you know what happened to her.Papa and uncle Earl (James Earl)both said she had a mean disposition. Dad said she would "whup a kid whithout hesitation" :).
I knew most of Walter Lee's brothers and sister Sally...including some of the half brothers. I am named after Honor Scott also known as Bob. Most everyone called him Bob though...but it was just a nick name. He is buried at Dibble,OK cemetery not far from my dad and son's graves. Earl is also buried there. Walter Lee and granny Opal are in the Lindsay,OK cemetery.
I have been to the Ninnekah cemetery, but never able to find Walter Marrion's grave. There is a restoration project in progress at that cemetery...ao maybe I'll go again soon.
