Has anyone heard of Wiley Post and Will Rogers flying into Mangum Airport in about 1933? A cousin heard a story about her grandfather (Gilbert Thrower) getting to ride in their airplane. Apparently, Oscar Thrower was asked to ride but couldn't due to being ill. My mother has never heard this story before. She had heard that Will Rogers and Wiley Post had been to Mangum more than once but does not know why.
Gilbert had told this story to his kids over the years. He said he was about 5 yrs old. He turned 5 in Dec 1932.
My own father and grandfather knew both men as they lived in Claremore in the 1920's and 1930's. I do know that Will Rogers did Goodwill tours for Okla Military Academy.
This next week, I hope to do some newspaper research to see if I can find anything in the Mangum papers.
