Been up most of the nite pouring over 120 pages of Quaker monthly meeting minutes a researcher from the Edmund Stanley Library at Wichita Kansas was kind enough to copy for me.I'm hoping someone in Kay County OK will be familiar enough with the Kaw Tribe to help me find what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for the names of the children at the Quaker Mission to the Kaw at Council Grove Kansas. Those monthly minutes do mention the mission but only in reference to the spiritual well being of the people running the mission.Nothing about the Indians or orphans at the mission.
The researcher has tried to help but doesn't know where to look. Several other Quaker libraries have told me the records are in Wichita but we don't know which records contain the information. It feels like we're looking for a needle in a hay stack. Does anyone have any idea what kind of records would contain information regarding the day to day operations of the Quaker Mission to the Kaw in KANSAS? or where a list of the orphans could be?The time fram we're looking at is 1860 -1867 BEFORE removal to Oklahoma. I have already checked the "Kaw Indian Census and Allotments" by Bradford Koplowitz - it is too late in time.
