I found an article in "The Ada Weekly News" of Oct. 30, 1947 that answered some of my questions. There was an argument among Benny W. Goforth, Cora PADGETT Brigance, and her daughter, Verdie Brigance. Verdie was the only one to survive the dispute. Cora was shot and killed by Mr. Goforth, according to the report. And, then, in a struggle for the gun, Mr. Goforth was also fatally shot. No trial was necessary.
