My brick wall is my great-grandmother, Sarah H. McCampbell.Or maybe she was Sarah Tomlinson. My mother, who is deceased as well as all of her siblings, always said her grandmother's maiden name was Tomlinson.
But Sarah H. McCampbell married Isaac Louie/Louis Hopkins in Benton, Arkansas on July 15, 1880.This marriage (Louie's second of three!) produced two children:James, born in July 1883 (of whom we can find no record whatsoever except census records when he was a small child) and my grandmother, Miranda Ellen Hopkins, who was born in 1885 in Paris, Texas.
This Paris, Texas notation fits in with a note, in my mother's handwriting, which was recently found. It reads: Born Guthrie, Oklahoma School teacher Paris Uncle Jim Filman Sister Aug 8 Augustine
That there are several of her descendants who are school teachers seems very relevant.
Sarah is really a mystery. Since Louie Hopkins married a third time in 1893, we are left to wonder if he and Sarah divorced or if she died.If they divorced, where did she go?Did she marry again? If she died, where is she buried?
I will forever be indebted to anyone who can tell me more about our elusive Sarah.
