There were two old court houses in Idabel. And at least one long term lease and some short term leases.
One leased court house (offices) were located upstairs over Sharpes. The last time I was up there there was evidence of this. There are a lot of records in the Commissioners Journals about the jail that I believe was located behind this building. It had to be repaired many times because someone was always breaking out.
The last old court house, before the current one, was torn down in 1964.Offices were temporarily located in the old bus station building and the armory building.
I know about where the first old court house was.I believe there is some history of this building in the McCurtain County Historical Society books.I have seen a picture of it and there are records in the Commissioners Journals of the building of a vault at this site.
I've got to check something out about where I think the first post office was.I know it was not the one located on the First National Bank's parking lot (next to Sharpes).
