Does the city of Ada have city directories and might there be some available for the period of 1943-1953?
I need a look up for my grandmother, Emma Lee (Hardage) FENTER. She lived in Portland, Oregon from about 1915. Soon after her husband, Henry Walter FENTER, died in 1941, Emma went back to Ada for an extended visit with her 3 sisters and a brother. After the visit, Emma returned to Portland.
The brother was William "Bill" C. HARDAGE. The sisters were: Olene J. (HARDAGE) CONNALLY, who had married Charles H. CONNALLY. Myrtle M. (HARDAGE) SUMNER, who had married Earl T. SUMNER. Margaret "Addie" (HARDAGE) WILSON, whose 1st marriage was to Walter M. "Bo" WILSON. I heard the name of her 2nd husband, don't remember it.
Olene CONNALLY died in March 1977, and Addie's name by her 2nd marriage may have been in the newspaper obituary, if there was one.
I think Bill Hardage had a store, possibly a cleaners, where Emma worked for a while while she was there. I was also told that Bill owned or worked at an ice cream parlor, but I don't know if that is true.
One of the other brothers, Alfred "Alf" B. HARDAGE, owned a gas station in Ada. He was killed by a robber, in May 1941.
[The family had lived in Durant, Oklahoma and some of them moved to Ada.]
My grandmother, Emma, may have stayed with any of her 3 sisters, off and on, while in Ada. The time period of 1943-1953 is a close guess. I know she was still in Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1942.
