Hi, I am also researching this family.William and Mary Howell were my g-g-great grandparents.William & Mary to Anna Rosella Howell to Clyde Borrell to Verna Baldwin to Mary Ann Hankins to Me.
I find it very interesting that your family tradition held that Mary was full of Cherokee Indian Blood. We've always thought that my Grandmother (Verna Baldwin-Borrell) appeared to have Native American blood. But as we have Mary Howell's maiden name as Milam. This is how it is listed on her death certificate. We have a copy also of what appears to be her Birth Listing but her mother uses her married name there.
I believe that some of the Howell's are buried in Pottawatomie County but I have been unable to find any graves except for William A Howell (b 1853) and William Damascus Howell (b1920).Anna's death certificate shows burial at Dale, Ok but there is no record of her being buried at the Dale Cemetery (and I have personally walked the whole cemetery to verify--there are no Howell's there).
